Privacy policy
This is a translation for your convenience. Only the German version is legally binding.
This policy applies to Zählerfix and to the website zaehlerfix.recordingbeats.com.
The key points
- What you enter in the app stays on your device. We do not receive this data.
- The app works without an account and without signing in.
- The free version shows ads via Google AdMob. We ask for your consent first; personalised ads are only shown if you agree.
- In-app purchases (“Pro”) are handled by Google Play. We do not receive payment details.
- We do not use tracking tools and do not create user profiles.
- The website uses no tracking and no analytics or advertising cookies. Third-party scripts and cookies are limited to Cloudflare security features that defend against bots and attacks.
- If you write to us, your email is stored in our mailbox at StartMail in the Netherlands.
1. Controller
Evgen Grebenyuk
Provider of the app “Zählerfix”
Luhnenstraße 7, 30559 Hannover, Germany
Email: legal@recordingbeats.com
We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we are not required to do so.
2. Data in the app on your device
Everything you enter in the app (meters, readings, dates, tariffs, notes, photos, reminders, settings) is stored in the app's private storage on your device. The app does not send this data to any server, and we have no access to it.
If you uninstall the app or clear its data in the Android settings, all data is removed from the device.
Because we do not receive this data, we do not process it within the meaning of the GDPR. Processing takes place solely on your device and under your control.
The app keeps this data in a database. Photos of your meter are copied into the app's storage, not into your gallery.
You delete individual meters and readings directly in the app.
3. App permissions
- Camera: only when you take a photo of your meter. The app asks only when you tap. Without permission it keeps working, just without a photo. The app does not access your gallery.
- Notifications: only when you turn on the reading reminder. The app schedules the reminder on the device, without a server and without a push service. So that reminders survive a restart, the app may run briefly when the device starts. For the reminder, the app may briefly wake the device and let it vibrate.
- Internet and network state: only for the ads and the consent dialog (free version) and for the purchase through Google Play.
- Advertising ID (AD_ID): for the ads, see section “Advertising with Google AdMob”.
- Google Play billing (BILLING): for buying Pro, see section “Purchases via Google Play”.
The app does not access your location, contacts, calendar, microphone or your device storage outside the app.
4. CSV export, CSV import and PDF
When you export data as CSV or create a PDF summary, you choose yourself via the Android share menu where the file is saved or who it is sent to. The service or recipient you chose is then responsible for any further processing. For a CSV import, the app only reads the file you select yourself.
5. Advertising with Google AdMob
The free version shows ads via Google AdMob. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”).
Consent: Before the first ad is loaded, we use Google's consent platform (User Messaging Platform, based on the IAB TCF standard) to ask whether you agree to information being stored on and read from your device and to personalised advertising. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy → “Privacy options”. Withdrawal applies from that moment; processing up to then remains lawful.
What data does Google process? Depending on your choice, in particular:
- your device's advertising ID (Android Advertising ID) and app set ID,
- your IP address, from which an approximate location can be derived,
- device and app information (device type, Android version, language, app version),
- interactions with ads (e.g. impressions and clicks),
- diagnostic data of the ads SDK (e.g. crash and performance data).
Purposes: serving ads, measuring their performance, preventing fraud and abuse and, if you agree, personalising ads.
Legal bases: Storing and reading information on your device and personalised advertising are based on your consent (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you decline, Google may show non-personalised or limited ads. Where data that does not require access to your device is processed without consent, we rely on our legitimate interest in funding the free version through advertising and preventing ad fraud (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to this at any time (Art. 21 GDPR).
Google's responsibility: Where Google uses the data for its own purposes (e.g. to improve its services or to prevent fraud), Google is responsible for this itself, based on the Google Ads Controller-Controller Data Protection Terms.
Transfer to the USA: Google may also process data in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so an EU Commission adequacy decision applies (Art. 45 GDPR). In addition, Google uses EU standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).
Retention: Google determines how long it keeps the data under its own policies. The app stores your consent decision on your device until you change it or clear the app data.
You can reset or delete the advertising ID in the Android settings (Privacy → Ads). More: Google privacy policy and “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services”.
Your readings, tariffs, notes and photos are not transmitted to Google.
The easiest way to object to the ads is to buy Pro; the app then no longer loads any ads.
6. Purchases via Google Play
You buy “Pro” via Google Play. Google handles purchase and payment; Google Play's terms and privacy policy apply. We receive purchase details from Google (e.g. order number, product, time, country and amount), but no payment details such as card or account numbers.
Legal bases: performance of the purchase contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and statutory retention obligations for accounting records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR in conjunction with § 147 AO, § 257 HGB). We keep purchase records for as long as tax and commercial law require (usually 8 to 10 years).
Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The app checks with Google Play on your device whether you have bought Pro and remembers this locally.
7. Backup through Android
If you have turned on Android backup to your Google account on your device, Android automatically backs up the app's database and your meter photos to your Google account and restores them on a new device. The app only allows this backup if Android encrypts it on your device (with an active screen lock). The backup runs between your device and your Google account; we have no access to it. You can turn it on and off in the Android settings. Google's terms apply.
If you move directly from one device to a new one using Android's transfer feature, Android copies the same data (database and meter photos) to the new device. Other app data, such as caches, is neither backed up nor transferred.
8. No analytics, no profiles
We do not use tracking services unless this policy states otherwise. We do not create user profiles. No automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place.
In particular, we use no analytics, tracking or crash reporting services in the app or on the website. The only exception is the diagnostics in Google's advertising SDK (section “Advertising with Google AdMob”).
9. Website zaehlerfix.recordingbeats.com
Hosting via Cloudflare: The website consists only of static files and is delivered via Cloudflare Workers, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. We do not run a server of our own for it. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data (IP address, time, page requested, browser identifier) to deliver the page encrypted (TLS) and to protect it against attacks and abuse. Cloudflare processes this data on our behalf; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We have a data processing agreement with Cloudflare under Art. 28 GDPR.
Transfer to the USA: Cloudflare may also process data in the USA. Cloudflare, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so an EU Commission adequacy decision applies (Art. 45 GDPR). EU standard contractual clauses have also been agreed (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).
Logs: We do not keep access logs for the website ourselves and do not analyse visits. Cloudflare keeps connection data only as long as necessary for operation and security.
Bot detection and security check: Cloudflare adds a small bot-detection script to every page (“JavaScript Detections”, path /cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/…). It is served from our own domain and is used only to detect and block automated access, not for tracking. If Cloudflare considers a request automated, it may show a short security check before the page.
Cookies: Cloudflare may set two technically necessary cookies: “__cf_bm” (bot detection, valid for about 30 minutes) and “cf_clearance” (after a passed security check). Both serve only to protect the website, not advertising or analytics. Legal basis: § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG for setting and reading, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for processing.
Blocklist check: Before delivery, a Cloudflare Worker checks the IP address of each request against a blocklist of known attackers (CrowdSec). Nothing is stored in the process. The purpose is protection against attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Email address protection: Cloudflare obfuscates email addresses in the HTML so that spam bots cannot read them. For this the page loads a small script, also from our own domain; no cookie is set.
Security events: If a request triggers a security feature (e.g. a check or block), Cloudflare stores an event with IP address, browser identifier and requested path for a short time; the duration depends on the Cloudflare plan. Purpose and legal basis as above (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
No external content: The website does not load fonts, scripts or images from third-party servers. Links to stores or other websites are ordinary links; only when you click one do you go there, and that provider's privacy policy applies.
You may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR).
10. Contact by email
If you email us, we process your email address, your name (if you provide it), the content of your message and the time in order to answer your request.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract is concerned, otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you exercise your rights, we process the request to meet our legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) in conjunction with Art. 12 GDPR).
Email provider: Our mailbox legal@recordingbeats.com is hosted by StartMail B.V., Boulevard 11, 3707 BK Zeist, Netherlands. StartMail stores emails on servers in the Netherlands, i.e. in the EU. No transfer to third countries takes place for this. StartMail processes emails only to provide the mailbox for us. StartMail privacy policy
Retention: We delete emails once the request has been dealt with, unless a statutory retention obligation applies (e.g. business letters relating to a purchase, § 147 AO, § 257 HGB, 6 to 10 years).
Where processing is based on our legitimate interest, you can object to it (Art. 21 GDPR). Please do not send us sensitive data by email. Transmission is usually TLS-encrypted, but not end-to-end.
Contact in the app: This also applies to “Contact” in the app. It only opens your own email app; the app itself sends nothing. The subject then contains the app name and version, which helps us find errors.
11. Recipients
We do not sell data or pass it on for advertising purposes. The only recipients are those named in this policy: Google (advertising via AdMob); Google (purchases via Google Play); Cloudflare, Inc. (delivery and protection of the website); StartMail B.V. (email mailbox).
Android backup runs in your own Google account. For Zählerfix we run no server of our own and use no email sending service.
12. Retention at a glance
- Data in the app: on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Android backup: in your Google account until you delete it there or turn it off.
- Data at Google for ads and purchases: according to Google's policies.
- Purchase records at our end: for the statutory retention periods (section “Purchases via Google Play”).
- Website connection data: at Cloudflare only as long as needed for operation and security; security events for a short time depending on the plan; cookie “__cf_bm” about 30 minutes; we keep no logs of our own (section “Website zaehlerfix.recordingbeats.com”).
- Emails: until the request has been dealt with (section “Contact by email”).
13. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). For any request, an email to legal@recordingbeats.com is enough.
Complaints: You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is: Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen (data protection authority of Lower Saxony), Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, https://www.lfd.niedersachsen.de
Do you have to provide data? No. You are under no legal or contractual obligation to provide us with data. Without an email address, however, we cannot reply to you.
The easiest way to withdraw your consent to advertising is in the app under “Privacy options”.
Deletion: We do not store any data from the app on our own servers and do not keep user accounts. There is therefore nothing at our end whose deletion you would need to request. You delete your data in the app yourself (section “Data in the app on your device”), the Android backup in your Google account and the advertising ID in the Android settings. For data that Google processes for advertising or the purchase, contact Google or use the settings of your Google account.
You do not have to provide data to Google either: the app also works without your consent to personalised advertising. Google can then only show non-personalised or limited ads. Pro can only be bought through Google Play.
14. Children
Zählerfix is aimed at adults. It is not intended for children and not designed for them.
